What is the difference between NAATI accreditation and NAATI certification?
NAATI accreditation was issued in the past for life-long accreditation, the translators with accreditation have the older round or diamond shaped NAATI stamps.
NAATI certification after 2018 requires translators to renew their certification every 3 years (with supporting evidence of translation work delivery) in order to continue delivering certified translation, the NAATI certified translator stamps are rectangular shaped. Some government authorities only accept certified translation from NAATI certified translators, not just NAATI accredited transators.
Most of the time, the certified translations prepared by our NAATI certified translators will be suitable for overseas authorities, as the requirements for certified translation in Australia is even more stringent and regulated by government departments. The certified translations delivered will contain the official translation company letterhead and contact information, translators credentials as marked by the translator stamp and certification statement attesting to the accuracy of the translation. You'll find that this is suitable for most receiving authorities; please compare with the receiving authorities' requirements if unsure.
Notarisation refers to the signing or certification of the document being witnessed by a notary public. Notarised translation does not mean the notary public / lawyer has any knowledge of the language or translation, it is simply a witnessing service to ensure the person signing is correct legally by proof of identity. Notarised translation is not usually used or required in Australia, and even for overseas, submitting certified translation by a trusted translation agency is usually sufficient.
There is no expiry for the NAATI certified translations delivered, the validity date in some translator stamps only pertains to when the translators needs to renew their certification in order to continue preparing certified translation.
