    The Japanese Language

    • Japanese is natively known as 日本語 and belongs to the Japonic language family.
    • There are approximately 125 million native speakers worldwide.
    • Japanese uses three writing systems simultaneously: Kanji (Chinese characters), Hiragana (cursive syllabary for native words), and Katakana (angular syllabary for foreign words and emphasis).
    • The Japanese writing system is one of the most complex in the world; literacy requires knowledge of approximately 2,136 j\xc5\x8dy\xc5\x8d kanji (commonly used characters) plus the two 46-character syllabaries.
    • Japanese has an extensive system of honorifics and politeness levels (keigo) that fundamentally alter verb forms, vocabulary, and sentence structure based on social context.
    • The language is considered a language isolate by many linguists, with no proven genetic relationship to any other language family, though it is sometimes grouped with Ryukyuan languages.
    • Japanese can be written horizontally (left-to-right, modern standard) or vertically (top-to-bottom, right-to-left columns), with vertical writing still common in literature and newspapers.
    • The Japanese community in Australia numbers around 55,000, concentrated in Sydney (North Shore, eastern suburbs), Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Japan is one of Australia's largest trading partners, and the relationship drives significant business, tourism, and educational exchange. Many Japanese residents are on temporary visas (working holiday, student, business) rather than permanent migrants.

    About Camden

Camden is a historic town of the Macarthur Region of Sydney, Australia. Camden is 65 kilometres south-west of the city's central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of Camden Council. It lies on the fringe of the Sydney metropolitan area and is close to the suburb of Campbelltown. The area now known as Camden was originally at the northern edge of land belonging to the Gandangara people of the Southern Highlands who called it Benkennie meaning 'dry land'. North of the Nepean River were the Muringong, southernmost of the Darug people while to the east were the Tharawal people. They lived in extended family groups of 20–40 members, hunting kangaroos, possums and eels and gathering yams and other seasonal fruit and vegetables from the local area. They were described as 'short, stocky, strong and superbly built' and generally considered peaceful. However, as British settlers encroached on their land and reduced their food sources, they turned to armed resistance which ended in 1816 after many of their number were massacred . Explorers first visited the area in 1795 and named it 'Cowpastures' after a herd of cattle that had disappeared was discovered there. In February 1805, Governor King instructed (apparently reluctantly) a surveyor to measure 5,000 acres (20 km²) for John Macarthur at Cowpastures, where Macarthur had been promised land by the Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, Lord Camden. Macarthur named his property Camden Park in honour of his sponsor.
