NAATI Assyrian Translation Certification
NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) is Australia's national standards and accreditation body for translators and interpreters. Our Assyrian translators hold NAATI Recognised credentials.
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic is classified as a recognised language by NAATI. Formal certification testing is limited due to the small number of practitioners, but recognised practitioners are available for translation.
Right-to-left script: Assyrian is written from right to left. Our translators ensure that all translated documents maintain correct text direction, formatting, and layout, which is particularly important for official documents and certificates that need to mirror the original format.
Syriac script: Assyrian uses the Syriac script. Our translation process ensures that all characters are correctly rendered and that the final document maintains professional formatting suitable for submission to government agencies, courts, and immigration authorities.
All NAATI-certified Assyrian translations from Sydney Translation include the translator's NAATI stamp, signature, and certification number. Learn more about our NAATI translation services and how certification works.
NAATI-certified Assyrian translations are accepted by:
Department of Home Affairs (immigration and visa applications)
State and federal courts
Universities and educational institutions
Government agencies including Centrelink, Medicare, and state transport authorities
Assyrian is natively known as ܣܘܪܝܬ and belongs to the Afro-Asiatic, Semitic, Aramaic, Northeastern Neo-Aramaic language family.
There are approximately 600,000 native speakers worldwide.
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic is a modern descendant of Aramaic, the lingua franca of the ancient Near East and the language spoken by Jesus Christ.
The Assyrian people are indigenous to Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq, southeast Turkey, northwest Iran, and northeast Syria).
Assyrian uses the Syriac script, which comes in three main forms: Estrangela (classical), Madnhaya (Eastern), and Serto (Western).
The language has survived despite the Assyrian people lacking a nation-state, maintained through the Assyrian Church of the East and cultural institutions.
The Assyrian genocide (Seyfo) of 1914-1920 displaced much of the Assyrian population, leading to diaspora communities worldwide.
Australia is home to one of the largest Assyrian diaspora communities in the world, estimated at over 50,000 people. Most arrived from Iraq and Iran from the 1960s onward, with further waves after the Gulf Wars. The community is concentrated in Sydney's Fairfield and Liverpool areas, with significant populations also in Melbourne.
